Save the Garment Center

If you are in the fashion industry you know that resources in the NYC garment center are shrinking and the number of tourists and shops are increasing.  If you have or work for a small line, you know the factories and wholesale outlets to buy necessary items (like, say, fabric, buttons and zippers) are disappearing due to rent hikes and rezoning which allows more retail in a once heavily manufacture centered neighborhood. Help support the move to keep the businesses vital to these New York companies local.

Rodarte - Spring 2009

A critic questioned whether Rodarte could have delivered a more commercial collection this season, something that shoppers could actually buy into. I was shocked because this was the season that Rodarte won me over. I have always respected their outsider artistic take on fashion. But this season all the press, attention and pressure came together for them to create an interesting, beautiful and, dare say it, wearable collection for the sisters. It's not cardigans and sensible slacks. It's the Mulleavey sisters take on glam and I'm all for it. We are not shopping for trousers. Hello.
